Chapter Fifteen

Day Six, Meeting Oscar

Back in their apartment Ray and Dona were having lasagne for supper with some fresh bread they had bought in Florence.  After their beers, they had found a small bakery and then an empty alleyway to take their trip back.  Ray was now concerned that every time they found a solution to a problem they discovered a new one and thought they should go out for a drink, to forget about it for a while.  The photos from Florence, would just have to be for them and they had to remember that.

They walked along to the main square, sat outside a bar and ordered a couple of beers and then just sat in silence. Three others, a couple about Ray and Dona's age and a younger man, came from the hotel opposite and sat at the next table. They were talking in English and Ray and Dona couldn't help but listen in to their conversation.

The couple were on holiday but the younger man was on a business trip. The couple were going to visit the lighthouse the next day and Ray excused himself for listening in, saying they had been to the lighthouse earlier in the week, then offering some advice on the best road to take and also on parking.

Ray and Dona were asked to join the others and from then on, they spent the rest of the evening chatting, mainly about France and other travels.  The older couple Steve and Janet were quite chatty but Oscar the younger man was fairly quiet but was listening to everything intently.  Ray and Dona discovered that Steve and Janet had just met Oscar over dinner in their hotel and after chatting as the ate, they had asked him if he wanted to come for a drink with them.

As the night wore on, Oscar started to join in a bit more and asked Ray and Dona what they had planed for tomorrow.   Ray said that they had not planned anything yet but maybe would be going to the Zoo, as it was supposed to be the biggest in France.  Zoo de la Palmyre was not far away over on the mainland in La Palmyre but he wasn't sure yet, they would have to see how they felt in the morning.

It was getting late by this time and Steve and Janet said that they should get to bed as they had to be up early to get to the lighthouse.  They said goodnight and made there way back across to their hotel.

Oscar offered to buy Ray and Dona another beer, Ray said it was getting a bit late but Dona accepted the offer, so they had another beer together.  They chatted about the few days previous but did not mention anything at all to do with the real excitement they had been having.

Eventually, Ray and Dona said thank you for the drinks and made there way back to their place, leaving Oscar on his own, wondering.  Had he found the people he was looking for, he would have to check out the others but he was pretty sure Ray and Dona were the people he was looking for.

Back at their place, Ray and Dona decided that the Zoo may be a good place to visit in the morning, a day off from trips, could be a good thing.  It could give them time to think and work things out, like the way Ray found that writing in his blog was getting very complicated.
