Chapter Fourteen

Day Six, The Search Starts

After breakfast, Oscar left Rochefort for the short drive back to Le, Château, d'Oléron and his new much smaller accommodation at the Inn Les Jardins d'Alienor.

As he unpacked again, he did not realise that he was only a block away From Ray and Dona, he did however know where all six English couples staying in Le, Château, d'Oléron were staying. He would now see if he could find the couple that matched the descriptions he had from Yorkshire. He had studied passport photos for all of them but that hadn't helped one bit and also all of them were around the same age.

Although this was business, Oscar didn't see why he shouldn't enjoy himself while he was here, after all this could all come to nothing in the end. Up to now he had stayed in good accommodation, had eaten very well and now he was going for a stroll in the sun. Mulder and Scully never seemed to have it this good.

He started the search by walking to each of the addresses he had for the English people staying in Le, Château, d'Oléron, one couple was actually in the same hotel as he was staying but they were out for the day, according to reception. He didn't need a map, he had simply typed each addresses into a navigation app on his phone. This wasn't some sophisticated piece of software supplied by the department but a free app downloaded from the net. It was working very well set to pedestrian mode and he had already passed Ray and Dona's apartment but there was nothing to see there.

By the time he next stopped at a café for lunch, he had already viewed four of the addresses on the list and had managed to rule out one couple. They had been coming out of a hotel as he was passing, he recognised them straight away from their passport photos. How had he ruled them out, simple, the lady was in a wheelchair, with a pot on her leg.

After lunch and a coffee, Oscar set of for the last address on the list, it was not actually a building address, it was the campsite just outside the town walls. It was a nice walk there and a productive one as well.  At the campsite he found the couple sat outside their motorhome, the GB sticker on the back was a dead giveaway.   He went over to speak to them saying he was thinking of buying a motorhome and was offered a seat and a beer, that he didn't refuse.  During the conversation he discovered, that they had only arrived late on Sunday night after an all day drive to get there.   Ruling them out as well.  So now he only had four couples left to check out.

Oscar thanked them for all the motorhome information and for the beer, bade them farewell and a safe journey.   Out of the campsite he walked down to the beach, then back into town along the towns sea walls overlooking the mainland.  This way was a much longer walk but the sun was shining and the other couples would probably not be back much before dark, so he may as well make the best of it.
