Chapter Seventeen

Day Seven,

Oscar Jamerson was up nice and early, sat in the sun by the window, studying all the information he had on this subject on his laptop. He checked to see if there was any new material come through since last nigh, he had set up in the office to have anything new sent straight to his laptop.

It is absolutely amazing just how much information Oscar had accesses to but that was his job and he was really good at it. Oscar assumed that his bosses knew how good he was but then again there was only him doing that job.

He gave up looking for now and headed down for breakfast, Steve and Janet were already part way through their food when he got there.

"Hi Oscar" greeted Janet, "how are you today, did you stay out long last night"

"No not really, we had another beer and then I came back here for some well needed sleep" replied Oscar "are you still going to visit the lighthouse today?"

"Oh yes, we have a full day planned" said Steve "we will travel as close to the west coast as we can until we get to the lighthouse, stop there for lunch and then come back down close to the east coast. It should be a good day. We intend to visit and explore any town or village to come to along the way"

"Very nice" replied Oscar "hope you have a lovely day."

The waiter then came over with Oscars breakfast and the room was quiet for a wile, until Steve and Janet got up to leave.

"Would you like to come with us Oscar" asked Janet "we would be pleased to have you join us."

"I would love to come" Oscar lied "but unfortunately, I am meeting a friend for lunch over on the mainland but thank you very much."

"Ok then, maybe we will see you tonight" said Steve as they left.

Oscar made a mental not that it was very unlikely that Steve and Janet were the couple he was looking for. So now it was down to checking the last two couples on the list, he was early enough to see them both before they went too far.

The first of the last two couples where in an apartment about two hundred yards away, Oscar walked over to their place in the bright sunlight and found that he was enjoying himself, maybe he was due a holiday in the sun.

He was just down the street when the couple came out of there apartment and were getting their car ready for a trip out. So quickly Oscar took his phone out and got a photo of them, he would get photos of the rest then go back to see the barman and see if he remembered any of them.

With the photo taken Oscar went back for his car and set off to find the last couple on his list. This couple where on the edge of the town just passed the campsite and Oscar found it easier to take his car than walk. On arrival at their accommodation, Oscar was surprised to find it was a walled town house and parked up opposite. It was about an hour latter just as he was thinking of moving on, that the gates opened and a car drove out. Oscar could see clearly the couple in the car, so at a safe distance behind he set off to follow them.

Oscar was surprised when they pulled over and got out at the Zoo but he did what he could and followed them in. It took a while to spot them once in there but he eventually found them feeding the giraffes. Perfect for getting a photo of them, which he did as soon as he got near enough. Giraffes are a lot bigger than Oscar thought they were, even for someone as well educated as he was, they were massive.

As he was in the Zoo and already amazed by the giraffes he carried on walking around viewing all of the animals on display. It was only when Ray turned around and saw him, he noticed Ray and Dona sat there and he quickly moved off.

He did get a photo of Ray and Dona though as they watched to parrots, he then made his way out of the Zoo and went back to the Island.

Back on the island, Oscar made his way back down to the bar at the port to see if the barman could remember who it was that took the artifact away with them. That was going to be difficult though, as he had already told the barman that he was looking for his friends. So he thought he would go with his instinct, he deicide to show the photo of Ray and Dona and if he was wrong, he was going to have to work it out as it went.

His first piece of luck was, that it was still the same barman on duty.  Oscar had hoped that would be the case, in fact the bar was that small he was probably the owner as well.  He ordered a small beer again and started a conversation with the barman (in French).  The barman remembered him and asked if he had found the friends he was looking for. Oscar used the opportunity, got his phone out and showed the barman the photo.  The barman said that he was glad Oscar had found his friends and said that the Zoo was a really nice place to visit, although he never had time these days.  Oscar was confused for a moment then looked at the photo, "oh yes it was really nice there, thanks for asking". They talked for a wile until Oscar excused himself, said thanks for the confiscation and moved on.

Oscar now had to get in with Ray and Dona to see just what was going on.

Tonight seemed to be a complete loss though, Ray and Dona did not appear on the square and in the end he retired to his room and did some research on them on his laptop.  He found nothing unusual at all, in fact they were a pretty ordinary couple.   Well they had a week left in France and he had to fined a way to get in with them.
